I need to dialyze a mixture consisting of 19Kda protein against water. Can I use 12-14K cutooff dialysis tubing since I want to reduce the dialysis time.I would sincerely appreciate if anyone can give me suggestions.

First, it's usually not a good idea to dialyze against pure water. You should generally dialyze against a buffer with concentration similar to the buffer your protein is dissolved in. If you are going to dialyze against pure water to remove all of the salts, you will need to add a high molecular weight species (like high molecular weight dextran) to the water. This will help keep water from running into your dialysis bag. (It reduces the concentration of water in the water.)

You can use a 12-14K membrane, but expect to loose a little (about 10% or so) of your protein. For 100% retention you'd need to use something around 4 or 5K.
