Difference between dialysis and sterile filtration for bacteria cultures? | Cantello | 2001-07-20 | Click here to register. |

I'd like to bring two bacteria cultures together, only seperated by some kind of semipermeable membrane to let some sort of proteins, etc. through. Now I wondered whether or not it would be possible to use sterile filters instead of dialysis membranes (because of better handling and better suitability to my reaction vessels) or if the diffusion through a filter is much slower compared to a dialysis membrane.
TIA!

 | Can Please specify whether your protien is intracellular or extracellular.
you can use pvdf cassette ultrafiltration system for dialysis as pvdf is having very low protien binding in nature. also you can get a various cutoff like 0.65 micron, 0.45 micron and 0.22 micron for dialysis.
However there is a difference between sterile filtration and ultrafiltration as the first is normal flow filtration and the later is tangaential flow filtration.
incase you require any further clarification please feel free to contact me at vivekjoshi@millipore.co.in
