Does RC membrane do the job?tate2001-05-23Click here to register.
Hello,
I am trying to separating disassociated casein proteins(MW19KD-25KD) from tiny fat globules (average diameter 250nm)in diluted skim milk samples, CE memberane with 50KD cutoff seems a good choice as it has low protein binding property, but does RC memberane do the same job as CE one in this case? any advice please.
thank you very much
Su

Personally, I'd use an RC membrane. I'm not sure how much fat you have, but I'd be ever so slightly concerned that the CE membrane might dissolve in the fat.

The cut off you've selected (50 kd) is probably a good choice, although if 100 kd is available I'd go with that.

The only potential problem I can see is that the milkfat may dissolve into the membrane and then either block the membrane's pores or dissolve out the other side. I doubt that either of these will happen, but you'd probably like to hear of the potential problems sooner than later.

Thanks for visiting.
