using a float-a-lyzer with an unknown natural productcaboverde2011-05-05Click here to register.
I need to desalt (sodium acetate) a natural product which I isolated from a culture broth by using ion exchange chromatography. I suppose the MW of the natural product to be between 100 and 500 Da. Do you think it it possible to use a MWCO 0.1-0.5 kD to keep the compound within the dialysis membrane and the salt will diffuse into the surrounding water? Can I start with water immediately or would it be better to use a less concentrated Na-acetate buffer initially?

Dear Caboverde, ideally the MW of the product that you wish to retain should be 1/2 of the MWCO. A 100-500D MWCO might some of your product. Depending on your salt concentration you may be able to start with water. You can request a sample of our Float-A-Lyzer on our web page to try out.

Dear Stevele,
so, if I understand correctly you would recommend to use a MWCO of 500-1000D to retain the natural product. But the much smaller salt should diffuse from the tube into the surrounding water, right ?
It wold be worth a try.
