MwCO and protein purificationbingningmeng2010-05-24Click here to register.
I don't understand what does MwCO 8000-14000 stand for? Does it means that all the moleculars that less than 8000 can pass through the membrane while the moleculars that larger than 8000 will keep in the dialysis tubing? What about 14000? What does 14000 mean? If I want to purify the lsozyme(14.7 kDa), Cytchrome(12 KDa) and Rnase A(13.7 KDa) from some small molecular such as metal ions, Can I use the dialysis tubing whoses MwCO is 8000-14000?

A MWCO of 8-14kD means that molecules as small as 8kD will be retained by the membrane. Spectrumlabs makes a 10kD RC membrane (132119) that will retain your molecules of interest and pass the small metal ions.

For certain membranes it is hard to define an exact MWCO, therefore a range is given.
